Logan beats Lions in softball for first time since 2019

Logan scored its first victory over Santa Rosa in almost five years with a district doubleheader split last Monday.

The Lady Longhorns won the first game 17-16 against the Lady Lions in extra innings.

Trailing 16-14 after the top of the ninth inning, they rallied for three runs in the bottom half of the inning to win it. Marilyn Moreno, who went 4-for-5 during the game, delivered a two-run single to win it. Moreno totaled four RBI.

Bella Coronado went 2-for-3 with three walks, two doubles and an RBI. Logan pitcher Zaiyana Grijalva struck out 11 batters in the complete-game victory.

The last time the Lady Longhorns defeated Santa Rosa was a 16-12 decision on April 23, 2019.

In the second game, the Lady Lions seized control with an 11-run sixth inning to win 22-15.

Santa Rosa (4-6) mashed 23 hits during the contest.

Moreno was 3-for-6 in the game with three RBI. Coronado went 2-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored. Brookel Smith when 3-for-4 at the plate with two walks and three RBI.

Host Dora swept a non-district doubleheader from the Lady Longhorns by scores of 14-1 and 14-9 on Thursday.

Logan fell to 1-5 overall.

Dora improved to 5-4.
