Wanda Coots
Wanda Dale Coots, 89, died Sunday, June 15, 2003 in Big Spring, Texas.
She was born Oct. 3, 1913, in Rosebud.
She graduated from Clayton High School and was a member of the First Christian Church in Tucumcari. She was a bank teller in Nara Visa and later at the Citizen’s Bank in Tucumcari, where she later retired.
She was preceded in death by her first husband, Carl Dale; her second husband, A.G. Coots; and a brother, Phillip Dale.
Survivors include a daughter, Janie Dale Hart of Ackerly, Texas; and numerous grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
A graveside service was held Tuesday at Nara Visa Cemetery. The Rev. Jim Witcher officiated.
Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari handled arrangements.

Manuel Griego
Manuel B. Griego, 65, died Saturday, June 14, 2003, in Amarillo.
He was born July 14, 1937, to Mike and Virginia Griego.
He was a retired veteran of the National Guard after 34 years of military service. He was a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Veterans. Family members said he enjoyed spending time with his grandchildren and working in the yard. He married Genevieve “Billie” Lopez on Sept. 27, 1958.
He is preceded in death by his parents and two brothers, Moses and Robert Griego.
Survivors include his wife; five daughters, Terrie Maestas (and husband, Lloyd,) and Bonnie Griego, all of Tucumcari, Norie Medina (and husband, James) and Tonia Calbert (and husband, Dennis,) all of Portales, and Monica Chavez (and husband, Billy) of Broken Arrow, Okla.; two sons, Joshua Griego of Tucumcari and Anthony Griego (and wife, Evette) of Amarillo; three sisters, Dolores Reed, Julia Sandoval and Faye Lucero; three brothers, Phillip, George and Felix Griego; and 13 grandchildren.
A prayer service was held at 7 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Funeral Home Chapel.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. today at First Baptist Church.
Pallbearers will be Max Crespin, Danny Griego, June Maestas, Bobby Martinez, Pat Otero and Paul “Wagon” Zacharias. Honorary bearers will be grandsons Mark Maestas, James Medina, Reyes Calbert, and Andre and Adrian Griego.

Vera Mackey
Vera A. Mackey, 82, of Solano, died Monday, June 16, 2003, at Colfax Medical Hospital.
She was born July 13, 1920 to Lloyd and Mary Olive Greenwalt in Illinois.
She was a member of Solano Homemakers Club for 65 years. She worked as an assistant postmaster for more than 20 years. She also sat on the election board for many years and was also attended the Mosquero Community Church. Family members said her greatest joys were her children and grandchildren, and that she was a quiet, loving mother who loved her family no matter what. She enjoyed oil painting, sewing and making quilts and Western shirts.
Services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Friday at Mosquero Community Church.
Cliff Miller will officiate.
Memorial contributions may be made to Mosquero Community Church.

Vera Rose
Vera Knight Rose, 90, died Friday, June 13, 2003, at Baptist St. Anthony’s Hospice in Amarillo.
She was born June 17, 1912, in Lakeview, Texas.
At the age of 3, Rose and her family moved to Quay County. She graduated from Porter High School in 1929 and attended Montezuma Baptist College and Wayland Baptist College. She received a bachelor’s degree in teaching in Las Vegas, N.M. She taught school at Porter and Endee and then moved to Tucumcari where she was chosen Teacher of the Year before her retirement in 1976. She has made her home in Amarillo since 1995. She was a member of the retired teachers of Quay County, Tucumcari Art League, Tucumcari Historical Museum and the New Mexico Association of Educational Retirees.
She was preceded in death by her parents; one sister, Lola Knight; and nephews Aubrey, James, Donald and Ronald Knight.
Survivors include one sister, Bertha Harred of Alvin, Texas.
Graveside services were held Tuesday morning.
The Rev. Scott Seymour officiated.
Burial was held at Tucumcari Memorial Cemetery.
