Experience will be the key to success for the 2003 House Cowgirls volleyball team.
Head coach Jason Lee loses only one starter from a team that finished third in the district last year. House will be counting on three seniors and two freshman to lead the way this season.
Three seniors return this season as captains after each earned all district honors last season. House will use a two setter system with seniors Haley Lee and Priscilla Sepulveda. Senior outside hitter Christa O’Steen will add offensive power.
“Our experience helps us,” Lee said. “We are already ahead of the curve because they’ve played together so much.”
Lee said he is expecting big things from freshmen Shannon Lane and Sarah Lee who received playing time last year as eighth graders. Coach Lee only replaces Tara Griggs from last year.
“We have some young girls that are stepping up and playing well,” Lee said.
Winning the district championship is a goal Lee said his team could achieve with experience and skill at the setter position.
“We feel like we have a chance, it is a really competitive district,” he said. “We spread it around pretty well and we have to because we are small.”
