San Jon opened the 2003 volleyball season with a 3-1 victory against Dora High School, a team head coach Clair Rachor said he doesn’t remember ever defeating.

“With our size we will force a lot of teams into tipping,” he said. “right now we are really working on our coverage.”
San Jon will be using a one setter system at the beginning of the year with sophomore JaTawn Slutz running the floor. Rachor said by districts he hopes to have another setter ready to go to alleviate the pressure on the inexperienced Slutz.

He said the district championship race is wide open this year with the Logan Longhorns setting the pace.
“I think everyone has an opportunity, I still like Logan on offense and defense,” he said. “And I like Grady because of their good defense.”
