A candidate for a top position with the Greater Tucucmari Economic Development Corporation withdrew his application last week.
Wayne Boling from Lubbock, Texas was being considered for the Economic Development Director position with the GTEDC. He was scheduled to appear at a public meeting Thursday but withdrew his application prior to the engagement.
GTEDC President Leo Thrasher said Boling may have had other opportunities. Another candidate Don Welty met with the public Monday, Thrasher still considers Welty a candidate for the position but the search will continue.
“At this point in time we still have a pool of applicants and we will look at those people first,” Thrasher said.
A nationwide search began in mid-summer and 14 candidates were ranked and chosen for interviews “based on what we were looking for,” Thrasher said.
GTEDC has worked with officials at Mesalands Community College.
“We’ve tried to use Masalands expertise,” Thrasher said.
Thrasher said the board members will further consider candidates from their current pool before more advertising is considered. He also said that any serious contender for the position will be made available to the public prior to the final selection.
He said taking appropriate time to find the correct candidate is crucial. He would not speculate on when a final decision could be made.
“We feel it is important to take the time and address the issues for the community,” he said.
