Mesalands rodeo team battles at Alpine

QCS Reports

The Mesalands rodeo team made a strong showing this weekend in Alpine.

In Bareback, Clay Houston finished in 11th place overall and was followed by Cody Kersey who finished in 15th place overall.

Bull Rider Joshua Nunn took 2nd spot in the long round and finished in 3rd place the average. Freshman Marcus Young just missed getting past the timer on an exciting ride that only needed 2/10 of second more in the long round.
Genie Noel took 13th place out of a field of 90 competitors in the Goat Tie.

Chance Towner finished the short round in Saddle Bronc in 3rd place. But his stirrup fender strap broke in the short round and he couldn’t stay on for a full ride.

Steer wrestlers Justin Price, Brandon Gore and Coty Benavides all finished in the top 20 out an 85 competitor field.

“I was very pleased with the showing our team made at Alpine against those bigger schools and a large field of competitors,” said coach Danny Garcia.
