The Christian you should be

Christian you have a job to do. That job is to love others the way Christ loves you. John 13:34-35 (NIV) 34 A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. 35 By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another.” In order to do that job you must understand God’s definition of love.

1Corinthians 13:4-7 (NIV) 4 Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. 5 It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. 6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. 7 It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres. Let us look at this definition in detail.

4 Love is patient, pa·tient — 1. Bearing or enduring pain, difficulty, provocation, or annoyance with calmness. love is kind, kind. — 1. Of a friendly, generous, or warm-hearted nature.

2. Showing sympathy or understanding; charitable: It does not envy, en·vy. —1.a. A feeling of discontent and resentment aroused by and in conjunction with desire for the possessions or qualities of another it does not boast, boast —1. To glorify oneself in speech; talk in a self-admiring way. — tr. 1. To speak of with excessive pride.

It is not proud, proud — Filled with or showing excessive self-esteem. 5 It is not rude, rude — Ill-mannered; discourteous: it is not self-seeking, self-seek·ing — Exhibiting concern only with promoting one’s own ends or interests: it is not easily angered, an·ger — A strong feeling of displeasure or hostility. it keeps no record of wrongs, re·cord — tr. 1. To set down for preservation in writing or other permanent form.

6 Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. re·joice — To fill with joy; gladden 7 It always protects, pro·tect — To keep from being damaged, attacked, stolen, or injured; guard, always trusts, trust — Firm reliance on the integrity, ability, or character of a person or thing always hopes, hopes.1. — To wish for something with expectation of its fulfillment.

2. Archaic. To have confidence; trust. — tr. 1. To look forward to with confidence or expectation: always perseveres per·se·veres. To persist in or remain constant to a purpose, an idea, or a task in the face of obstacles or discouragement.

That my friends is a very tall order indeed. Nobody ever said that being the kind of Christian that you should be was easy.
