SAN JON – It was clear early that it was San Jon’s evening to win on the home basketball court Saturday as they ended up defeating the Mosquero Pirates 87-61.
While a somewhat a one-sided affair, San Jon head coach Al McMillian said he felt it was a good win none the less.
“Well, all district wins are good wins,” said McMillian.
McMillian’s squad jumped out to an early lead Saturday and increased it at every turn but stepped back a bit in the final period of play. The San Jon Coyotes led by nine at the end of the first quarter, 24 at the end of the first half, 29 at the end of the third quarter and dropped back to a 26 point lead in the final quarter as they brought more and more non-starters into compete against the Pirates.
“We played a lot of people,” said McMillian. “A lot of our people saw quality time. Of course, we’re always happy when that happens.
The Coyotes will in their next three games face the remaining three teams in their district. San Jon will face Logan in Logan on Thursday evening and House on Saturday in San Jon.
League-leading Grady will follow next week.
“Obviously, these will be three tough games,” said McMillian.
