SAN JON – On Saturday evening the San Jon girls won their second district game of the season as they overcame the Lady Pirates of Mosquero 55-43.
According to San Jon head girls coach Clare Rocker the win was a welcome one that all of his girls were happy to see.
“Well, we were excited,” said Rocker of the win, “especially the younger girls.”
Rocker said the win was more than just a win for the team and had more of a meaning to both him and his players.
“I think it signified a bridging of a gap between our seniors and our younger players,” said Rocker.
Rocker said the gap has existed for much of the season ever since injuries took two of his more experienced players were knocked out of a couple of early games.
While San Jon took an early lead, it was not until the second half of the game that they really took command of the contest.
“I thought Mosquero played really well,” said Rocker, “but we played better, and I am really proud of our girls.”
Rocker said Mosquero has suffered under much the problems that his team has – losing key members to the team early in the season. However, Rocker pointed out that there was an upside for San Jon at least.
“Ours will be back,” said Rocker. “We should have her back in time for the House game.”
