According to Glenda Reid of the Tucumcari Altrusa organization, on Monday, March 8, the Altrusa International Club of Tucumcari placed a “little blue house” book drop box in the lobby of the Wells Fargo Bank on First Street in Tucumcari.
Reid said the book drop box will serve as a focal point for a place where area residents may donate the books they own and want to share with others but are not certain of a way to do it. She said all that it will now entail is going down to the Wells Fargo Bank and dropping off the books. According to Reid, adult books will be given to Dan C. Trigg Memorial Hospital, senior citizens sites, nursing and assisted living homes. The children’s books will be given to Trigg Memorial Hospital and needy children.
“Everyone is encouraged to bring their previously owned books and recycle them,” said Reid about the program.
Reid said Altrusa International’s main focus is Literacy.
“This project for the book drop is nation wide and Altrusa is trying to put books in every home,” said Reid. “Altrusa is very grateful to Wells Fargo for being the first to team up with Altrusa in this effort.”
Altrusa will be moving the box to different businesses in Tucumcari during the year.
