Rodeo team shines again in short round

Mesalands Community College rodeo team members made a good short round showing in steer wrestling and team roping during the recently held Snyder, Texas Intercollegiate Rodeo.

Steer Wrestler Justin Price finished the long round in seventh place out of 48 contenders. He went on to place sixth in the short round and fifth overall.

Team Ropers Reynaldo Maestas and Justin Price completed the long round in fifth place out of a field of 110 teams. They went on to finish in third place in the short round and fourth in the average.

Other team members placed well in the long rounds but fell shy of qualifying for short round competition.

They included Steer Wrestlers Coty Benavides (15th place) and Buck Nelson (16th place). Saddle Bronc riders Mattthew Antone and Chance Towner finished in 12th and 14th place respectively in the long round out of a field of 38 riders.

Team Ropers Terrel Littleton and Justin Price came close with a 13th place finish in the long round.

“It is exciting to see this Mesalands Team repeatedly showing up in the short round and making a good showing there as well,” said Rodeo Coach Danny Garcia.
