The House FFA Chapter traveled to Las Cruces to participate in the State FFA Career Development Event Contests last week.
Over 1450 FFA members from across the state competed in the 28 various contests that ranged from Agricultural Mechanics to Wool Analysis.
The House FFA Chapter , under advisor Tony Johnson was, said Johnson, “very fortunate” at the event, winning two of the state contests: one in Entomology and one in Landscape Design.
The chapter also placed Third in Floriculture, sixth in Horticulture Produce, and seventh in Home-site. “We ended up falling just short of the coveted Horticulture Sweepstakes Award that was won by the Dexter FFA Chapter,” said Johnson.
Members of the winning teams will now travel to Louisville, KY at the end of October to participate in the National FFA Convention, which will have over 50,000 FFA members attending.
“FFA is not like athletics in the sense of a 1A or 2A scheme, they compete against all schools, big and small alike. House is one of the smallest FFA chapters in the state but the kids have the hearts and try of a giant. They really make me proud in all they do,” said Johnson.
