Local graduates from Fort Worth Seminary

FORT WORTH — Tucumcari native Samuel Mitchell earned a Master of Divinity degree with Biblical Languages from Southwestern Baptist Theological Seminary in Fort Worth, Texas, on May 7.

Mitchell graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1991 and earned a Bachelor of Arts degree in Religion from Wayland Baptist University in 1998. He is the son of Eloy and Juanita Mitchell of Tucumcari. Mitchell plans to work as a pastor following graduation. Three hundred four graduates earned degrees during Southwestern’s 207th commencement ceremony at Fort Worth’s Travis Avenue Baptist Church. The spring graduating class included students from 25 states and 13 foreign countries. They earned 9 diploma degrees, 272 master’s degrees and 23 doctorates.

Students from 48 states, Washington D.C. and 47 countries are currently enrolled at Southwestern. More than 65,000 students have enrolled at the world’s largest seminary since it was founded in 1908. More than 38,000 have earned degrees.
