Billy Ray Curry
1. What is it that makes Quay County uniquely Quay County?
“Quay County is unique, because of its history. It began as cowboy country. The county was totally agricultural until the railroad pushed westward and brought with it small business and settlers from the East. Then came the “Mother Road” linking the Mid-West to the West. It is located in the beautiful Mesa Country of eastern New Mexico. The people and the mix of cultures make Quay county a very unique place.”
2. What do you see as the future of Quay County?
“I have always been and continue to be optimistic about the future of Quay County. I believe Quay County is standing at a “cross-roads” of challenges and extremely important issues. Quay County’s future can be bright, if the elected leadership are well informed, have a vision and a plan regarding industrial development efforts, which will stimulate growth and bring jobs to our county.”
3. What do you see as the biggest problem facing Quay County at this time?
“I believe that the water issue is the most critical problem facing Quay County at this time. Water is the most precious resource and commodity that any one can have, and it is absolutely critical that we protect and preserve it because it is essential to our existence; our future. Growth will occur where abundant water is available.
4. How do you go about solving this problem?
“The water issue must be resolved, and I don’t believe that the current leadership realizes just how critical the matter is. We must be informed and knowledgeable about the contract concerning the Ute Water reserve and the pipeline issue. I am committed to be informed and understand the total scope of the water issue and will insist that the public be kept informed about negotiations and decisions that are made.”
5. Why are you better suited for this position than your opponents?
“I have a lifetime of experience in agriculture, and I know the problems ranchers and farmers face. I have 22 years experience in the field of finance. I have 21 years experience as owner of the Sundowner Gallery. I have eight years of engineering experience for the City of Tucumcari. I have lived and raised a family, worked in Quay County all my life. I live here because I choose to live here. I believe that Quay County needs to be represented by leadership of two parties. I bring no personal agendas with me, and I am not seeking this position for self-serving purposes. I am only interested in working and leading Quay County into a prosperous future. If elected as county commissioner, I promise to serve Quay County to the best of my ability.
I will not compromise my standards of integrity, honesty and sincerity and I will stand firm by my belief and dictates and will not crumble under pressure of special interest.
If you want change, with results then cast your vote and elect Billy R. ‘Bill’ Curry as your next County Commissioner for District 2.”
