Ruby Ann Boxcar was crowned Queen of the Tucumcari Route 66 Festival Friday evening, July 9, at the Tucumcari Convention Center in front of a crowd of nearly 200 people.
Queen Ruby Ann presented copies of her five books as door prizes along with hugs for the ladies and kisses for all the men.
In addition to her good-natured ribbing of various audience members, Ruby Ann entertained the group by singing rousing renditions of “All of Me”, “I Will Always Love You,” “Amazing Grace”, and even a tribute to Elvis Presley.
Beginning with a Route 66 Trivia Contest and continuing with stories of her trailer park in Pangburn, Ark., Ruby Ann soon had the audience laughing at themselves and at each other. She ended the evening with her own brand of beauty tips for the ladies. “Honey, next time make your hair appointment earlier in the day, so your hairdresser hasn’t had quite so much time to tip the bottle.”
Ruby Ann was featured in the Wang Dang Doodle Parade this morning (July 10) at 9 a.m. and signed autographs at the convention center until noon. Festival events continue this afternoon with the Route 66 Big Screen Movie at 2 p.m. in the convention center followed by the Monster Truck Car Crush at 4 p.m.
The Kiwanis Buckaroo Ranch Rodeo also begins at 4 p.m. at the rodeo arena.
The Classic Rock ’n Roll Revue at 7:30 p.m. in the Tucumcari High School auditorium features the Fireballs who are best known for their early 1960’s hits “Sugar Shack” and “Bottle of Wine.” Also appearing as special guests are The Nomads and The Atomic Garage.
