According to Tucumcari High School FFA Sponsor Glenda Sours, members of the Tucumcari FFA Floriculture Career Development Team are ready to go to Louisville, Ky and compete in the FFA national floriculture competition at the National FFA Convention being held there Oct. 27-30.
Sours said that the four FFA floriculture team members competing, Stephanie Burns, Brandon Sours, Alisha Craine and Olivia Mitchell are looking forward to the competition in Kentucky.“This is a very good group,” said Sours. “They are knowledgeable and mature. I am looking forward to them representing the school. I think they will represent Tucumcari well.”
The FFA sponsor said the four students will get a chance to show their knowledge of flower industry production, the retail flower business and their general knowledge of flowers and plants in their different competitions.
Specifically, at the competition later this month, students will have to identify plants and make pertinent decisions in solving the day-to-day problems that occur in any part of the floriculture business. They will also be tested on, “their general knowledge through an exam. Also skill activities, such as flower arranging and corsage design will test student on what they have learned about floriculture,” said Sours.
The competition will pit the Tucumcari students against students from every state in the United States in addition to America’s territories who will also be attending the competition/convention in Louisville. “I’m really looking forward to this,” said Craine about the upcoming trip and competition.
