United Way Auction Chairman Amanda Hammer announced recently the annual United Way Auction will be Monday, Nov. 1, at the Well Fargo Bank in Tucumcari from 5:30-9 p.m. According to Hammer, the event will be also be broadcast on KTNM AM/FM radio.
Hammer said area merchant’s donations were what made the event possible. Local volunteer Arlene Frey said perhaps the most unique item on the auction block were railroad cross ties donated by Pacheco Trucking for landscaping. In other activities related to the United Way, Dwayne Walters of ALCO, said his store is hosting a Cute Baby Contest again this year.
He said any child two years or younger is eligible to enter.
“All money will be donated to United Way,” said Walters. “The winner also will receive a $25 Gift Card from ALCO.”
According to Arlene Frey of the United Way, ten local charities will benefit from all the proceeds raised from the different fund raisers.
They include: Casa de Hope, Eastern Plains Community Action Agency, Helping Hands Hospice, Oasis, Quay Council for Arts and Humanities, Saint Vincent de Paul, Salvation Army, Special Olympics, Tucumcari Home Health, Victims of Domestic Violence.
