New Mexico’s U.S. Senator Jeff Bingaman will be coming to Tucumcari Monday, Oct. 25 and will be visiting with both Tucumcari City and Quay County commissioners.
In addition, he will be attending an open luncheon hosted by the Quay County Democratic Party and finally he will be going by the Caprock Amphitheater south of San Jon to see the progress being made on Quay County’s newest wind farm. His visit with the two groups of commissioners and the public in general will be during the county commissioners’ meeting in the Quay County Courthouse at 9:30.
According to County Commissioner Jeff Lewalling, he and the other commissioners, both county and city are looking forward to Bingaman coming to the meeting and visiting with them and the public in general. His comments were echoed by Mayor Mary Mayfield who said the visit was a great honor for Tucumcari and she and the other city commissioners were looking forward to meeting him.
According to representatives in the Quay County Managers offices, a large enough group is expected Monday to visit with Bingaman during the commission meeting that the meeting has been moved from the normal commission chambers on the first floor to the second floor District Court which can accommodate more people. At noon, following the Senator’s visit with the two groups of commissioners, Bingaman will be the guest of the Quay County Democratic Party at a luncheon at the Holiday Inn. Quay County Democratic Party head Ron Wilmot said he is very excited about Bingaman’s presence at the luncheon.
Wilmot said he hoped as many people as possible show up to meet the Senator at the Holiday Inn.
“After all he’s everybody’s senator,” said Wilmot
Following the luncheon Bingaman said he’s looking forward to finding out more about the Ciello Wind Farm on the Caprock just south of San Jon.
“Senator Bingaman is really looking forward to this,” said his aide Maria Najara. “It’s something he is really interested in.”
