Four girls from the Tucumcari Rattler volleyball team were informed late this week that they had been named to their All-District Volleyball Team.
The Four, Amanda Tapia, Jamie Jones, Autumn Moore and Rachel Calbert all said they were elated to have made the team and all credited both of their coaches for their help in achieving the status. “All of us got here (the All-District Team) because of them,” said Moore. Tapia and Jones were named to the first team and Moore and Calbert were named to the second team.
Tapia was named as a setter while Jones was named to the team as a middle blocker. Moore was asknowledged as an outside hitter and Calbert as a defensive specialist. This means a lot to all of us,” said Tapia.
Head coach Alicia Trujillo said the season mean a great deal to her and her assistant coach also for a number of reasons not the least of which was the marked step up from pre-season form. “We made a lot of improvement this season,” said Trujillo about her girls. “We won seven games this year.”
The volleyball coach said she was impressed with all her players, but reserved special praise for the older girls on the squad. “The seniors really stepped up and showed a lot of leadership. Trujillo said she was very positive about Jones for the roll she played with the young girls on the team in addtion to her play on the court.
Jones on her part said her coach was kind to say such things about her but said there were basically tow reasons that the four girls who made it to All-District made it, and she said those two reasons were their coaches and the other girls on the team. Moore echoed her clasmate’s feeling about both topics.
“You’re right,” said Moore, “We couldn’t have done it without any of them.”
Calbert for her part said that the season was very special to herand she learned a great deal about volleyball but also about people and teamwork. “We learned just how much we depend on one another,” said Calbert.
