Once again this year just in time for Christmas, Mesalands Community College is sponsoring Toys of Joy
Toys of Joy is a group of events sponsored by the Tucumcari college set up to raise money to purchase toys for needy children at Christmas time in the Quay County area.
The events include a showing of a toy collection, a raffle and the already held Favorite Turkey Contest which took place leading up to Thanksgiving. According to Mesalands sporkesperson John Yearout, taking part in Toys of Joy is not hard for those interested in taking part. “All it takes,” said Yearout is for people who wish to donate a slightly used or new toy to be given to children in need this season, to do so at the college, Lowes Grocery and Alco.
According to Yearout, donations will be accepted until December 16. The MCC spokeman also said besides looking for toys for young people, the event is also looking for young people for the Christmas toys. Yearout said in order to be be able to keep their lists up-to-date, Names of children in Quay County who might be recipients of a toy this year are also being sought. One of the biggest fund raisers for the Toys of Joy is their annuay raffle and Yearout said this year there are a number of different items that may interest people. He said such things as a roster oven, a five-pound Hershey bar, four 20-pound turkey, oil changes, pizzas “and more,’ said Yearout. A complete list is available at the College.
Raffle tickets may be purchased at student services at Mesalands or from Mesalands students David Brown or Sheretta Jimenez. Tickets are $1.00 each.
Tickets will be available through Monday, December 13, 2004. The drawing will be held on Wednesday, December 15 at 2:00 PM at the College. Winners need not be present to win.

In the annual “Favorite Turkey Contest” Dr. Axel Hungerbuehler was named Favorite Turkey. The contest raised $295.75.
