Both the girls and the boys’ basketball teams of House High School lost Tuesday as they went up against basketball powerhouse Floyd.
Despite a 31-point game by Nathan Foust Tuesday night, it was not enough to guarantee a win for the Cowboys as they fell to Floyd 72-49.
Teammates attempted to help the hot shooting Foust in the contest, but it was not enough to make a dent in the 72 point balanced attack of Floyd.
Second leading scorer for the Cowboys was Jon Widmark who produced only seven point. While Widmark went to the charity line 13 times, he came away with only two free throw points from those trips. Third on the list of scorers for house was Lee Griggs how accounted for six points. Joe Ben Snipes produced three points and Kris Foust hit for two free throws.
While no one on the Floyd Squad came close to Nathan Foust in scoring, they did have nine different shooters hit for points in the game and three of those hitting in double figures.
The House Cowgirls fared little better than their male counterparts in the Tuesday evening game. Floyd girls won 62-47.
In fact the House girls held with the bigger Floyd team for the first quarter as House’s Sara Lee hit for eight points in the first quarter. She was helped in that quarter by Kimberly Lyons who accounted for two points. Those two girls equaled the Floyd teams 10 points.
Floyd started to pull away in the second period posting a six point lead by the end of the first half. It did not help that some of the House girls found themselves in foul trouble.
At the end of the third period, Floyd’s lead had been stretched to 11. This was despite Lindsy Lee’s hot shooting from the free throw line. She went seven for 12 from the charity stripe and through that led all House scorers with 18 points. She was followed by Sara Lee with 14. Also scoring were Kimberly Lyons who had eight and Shannan Lane who accounted for five.
