The same entertainers that packed the Tucumcari High School Auditorium for Cinco de Mayo will be back with a special Christmas performance on Saturday, Dec. 18 at 7 p.m.
“It’s a fantastic show,” said John Mihm president of the Quay County Council for the Arts and Humanities, the group sponsoring the event. “I mean it’s even better than the show they did for Cinco de Mayo.” Mihm said the show will feature the Baila! Baila! Dance Company and Mariachi Tenampa one of New Mexico’s oldest mariachi groups. One of the featured singers at the concert is Reynaldo Maestas, a former Mesalands Community College student who was the hit of the Cinco de Mayo performance in Tucumcari earlier this year.
Maestas will be joined in the lead singing role in the Christmas concert by his cousin Karliz de Marco.
According to the artistic director of the Quay County Council for the Arts and Humanities, Judy Hiner, the concert will be in two parts. The first will feature traditional New Mexico dances and songs while the acts following intermission will be the part concentrating on the Holidays.
Hiner said there will be Christmas carols, a reenactment of Las Posados and dances and songs that depict Christmas Eve and Christmas day. “I, for one am really looking forward to this,” said Mihm, “and I don’t think I’m the only one. This is a wonderful group of entertainers.”
Hiner said both Maestas, who recently recorded his first CD, and his cousin de Marco are “terrific singers, very charismatic and very talented.” She added that one of the high points of Saturday’s performance promises to be Maestas singing the hymn “Amazing Grace.”
“I think this will be a wonderful cultural experience,” said Mihm.
Tickets may be purchased early at the Chamber of Commerce office at the corner of Route 66 Boulevard and Fifth Street for a reduced rate or they may be purchased at the door. The performance begins at 7 p.m. For more information call: 461-1694.
