Youth awarded Eagle

Matthew Yearout of Tucumcari was awarded Scouting’s highest award, the Eagle Scout rank by Boy Scout Troop 689 of the Tucumcari Branch of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.

“This is something I have had as a goal since I was in Cub Scouts,” said Yearout during the presentation.
Another goal he set early on was to earn a high number of merit badges. By the time the scout earned his Eagle rank he had also earned 40 different merit badges and had participated in two different 50-mile hikes. The first hike was on the Washington State segment of the Cascade crest Trail and the second was around Mora.

Yearout is a graduate of House Alternative School and will attend Mesalands Community College with plans to serve a two year church mission.

His Eagle project was done earlier this year in the Outdoor Classroom area. Yearout is the son of John and Susanne Yearout of Tucumcari.
