Tucumcari defeated the Cimarron Rams, 66-57, Saturday in a basketball game marked by streaks at the Santa Rosa Invitational.
The Rattlers led 8-0 early, but also trailed 10-9.
Playing without ailing Nemie Salvador and injured Eric Holt, the Rattlers improved their record to 7-3. Matt Braziel hit several crucial threes and Jeremy Lopez and Gabriel Anaya gained more experience at bringing the ball down court.
Braziel hit two three-pointers and Anaya added another in the second quarter as the Rattlers opened up a 36-22 lead at the half.
Senior Chris McCasland, quiet in the scoring department early in the season, got back on track with 12 points for the game, getting steals, hitting free throws and making shots down low. The Rattlers went for the kill early in the final period with two three-pointers in a row to go up by 20. The Rams fought back closing to within seven points in the final two minutes.
McCasland hit two free throws and scored on a put-back on the Rattlers’ next possession, putting the game out of reach for the Rams.
