Lady Coyotes fall to Mosquero

The San Jon High School girls basketball team fell in overtime at home against Mosquero Saturday, 46-40. San Jon Head Coach A.J. Laird said it was a positive experience for her team despite the loss.
“We are a very young team and we handled the overtime well,” Laird said, “but we just didn’t make our free throws. Mosquero made some free throws and we didn’t make ours. That determined the outcome of the game.”
She said Lady Coyote Nicole Martinez hit a put-back off a missed free throw to tie the game at the end of regulation. Martinez was the team’s high scorer with 11 points.
Laird said her team is beginning to gel. “We’re settling down. We’re moving in a positive direction. Mosquero is a very good team. They have great outside shooting and we made it to overtime against them.”
