Raymond M. Mares
Raymond M. Mares, 44, of Albuquerque, died Tuesday, Jan. 25, 2005 at his residence.
Mares was born on April 27, 1959 in Tucumcari to Dorothy Mares-Vigil and Jimmy Chavez. He graduated from Tucumcari High School and entered the U.S. Air Force. For the past few years, Mares had worked in Albuquerque in the healthcare field. He volunteered to work with the homeless and shelters.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his grandparents, Cecil and Josephine Mares; and a sister, Debbie Garcia.
Survivors include his mother, Dorothy Mares-Vigil of Albuquerque; a brother, Robert E. Garcia of Albuquerque; a sister, Cathy Garcia-Murphy and two nephews of Wyoming; a niece of Albuquerque; and other family members.
Memorial services are at 2 p.m. on Monday, Jan. 31, 2005 at the Chapel of Sunrise, 7601 Wyoming Blvd., NE. Sympathies may be sent to: 9305 Mickelsen SE, Albuquerque, N.M. 87123.
David C. Smith
David C. Smith, 81, of Tucumcari, died Thursday, Jan. 27, 2005 at Trigg Memorial Hospital in Tucumcari.
Smith was born March 26, 1923 in Hornesville, Mo. He lived in Tucumcari for the past 37 years. He was a retired school bus mechanic for the Tucumcari Public School System. Smith also served in the U.S. Navy during World War II.
Survivors include his wife, Wanda of Tucumcari; four daughters, Alice King, Pat Evans and husband Tom, and Sheila Thorsen all of Tucumcari, and Joyce Alvis and husband Jerry of Plainview, Texas; two sons, David Smith and wife Andria of Tucumcari and Carl Smith and wife Angela of Albuquerque; one brother, Benjamin Smith of Arkansas.
He was preceded in death by his son Gary Smith in 1995, his parents and one brother.
Graveside funeral services are Monday, Jan. 31 at 10 a.m. at Tucumcari Memorial Park. Military services will be by the Veterans of Foreign War Post 2528 of Tucumcari.
