Carroll D. Hunton obit

Carroll D. Hunton, 79, of Farwell, Texas, died Feb. 5, 2005 at Farwell Convalescent Center in Farwell.
Hunton was born April 17, 1925 in Forrest to Ethel and Ludvil E. Hunton.
He grew up in Forrest and graduated from high school there in 1943. He served in the U.S. Navy and returned to the family farm in 1946. He graduated from Eastern New Mexico Junior College in Portales in 1951 with a degree in business and economics.
He married Wenonah Thorn on Feb. 6, 1956. He owned and operated the Portales Credit Bureau for 14 years at which time he was a member of the Roosevelt County Chamber of Commerce and served as county chairman for the Republican party. In 1969, he was appointed the state director for the Farmer’s Home Administration and moved to Albuquerque. In 1978, he returned to Clovis to work as the extension director for rural development for the Eastern Plains through New Mexico State University.
Hunton moved back to Portales in 1983 and was employed at United New Mexico Bank as a farm loan specialist. He retired in the late 1980s. Later, he took a part-time job doing collections for Poyner Home and Auto. He was a member of the Third and Kilgore Church of Christ and the Sons of the American Revolution.
He was preceded in death by his parents, four brothers, two sisters and two daughters.
Survivors include his wife Wenonah of Farwell; two sons, David Hunton and Tommy Hunton both of Portales; eight grandchildren; one great grandchild; one brother, Wayne and wife Bess Hunton of Clovis; and one sister, Lois and husband Nile Baker of Roswell.
