The San Jon Coyotes took the Grady Bronchos into overtime Wednesday, but an 8-0 run in overtime lead the Bronchos to a 74-62 victory.
Although San Jon’s season is over, Athletic Director Waymond Ragland said the Coyotes left it all out on the floor.
“Our guys played their hearts out,” Ragland said. “They played the best defense they played all year.”
Grady was up by five points early in the game at 16-11, but the teams alternated the lead in what was a close game all the way through overtime.
The game was tied 56-56 at the end of regulation.
With just a little over a minute left in overtime, Jared Archuleta hit a bucket that brought San Jon within three points of Grady at 65-62.
A Broncho was fouled on a three-point attempt and sank all three free throws to put the game out of reach.
“We got ourselves in foul trouble,” Ragland said, “and Grady hit their free throws.”
Seniors Trey Rusk, Jared Archuleta and Jason Bell played their last basketball game for San Jon.
