George Martinez, 76, died March 13, 2005 in the Cancer Center of American in Tulsa, Olka. following an extending illness.
Martinez was born April 22, 1928 in Trujillo . He retired from the Army Corps of Engineers after serving for 33 years at Conchas Dam. He was a member of St. Anneís Catholic Church in Tucumcari. He served in the United States Army during the Korean Conflict.
He was wounded in action and was awarded the Purple Heart. He was a lifelong member of the Disabled American Veterans.
Survivors include his wife Tomasita of Tucumcari; his daughter Charlene Martinez of Tucumcari; three sons Mike Martinez and Robert Martinez, both of Tucumcari, and Joseph Martinez (and wife Devona) of Albuquerque; five grandchildren Valerie Martinez, Michael Martinez, Wesley Martinez, KarSondra Martinez and Kevin Martinez; a brother Manuel Martinez of Pueblo, Colo.; and a sister Clara Martinez of Spanish Forks, Utah; and other relatives including numerous nieces and nephews.
Rosary will be recited at 7 p.m. today in the Dunn Memorial Chapel. Mass of the Resurrection will be offered at 11 a.m. Thursday at St. Anne¹s Catholic Church with Rev. Leo Padget as celebrant. Pall bearers will be Albert Pacheco, Art Pacheco, Frank Romero, Claudio Baca, Pat Gonzales and Victor Pacheco. Honorary pall bearers will be Al Verschuer, Edward Stuart, Adonago Gargia, Norman ³Smitty² Smith, Joseph Griego and Leo Naranjo. Burial will follow in the family plot at the Tucumcari memorial park Cemetery.
