The Tucumcari Rattler baseball team opened its season with a 13-3 win over Estancia at home Tuesday but came up short in the second game of a doubleheader, losing 5-3.

Game 1
Rattle Coach Anthony Alarcon was all smiles after his team exploded for six runs in the fifth inning to put the game out of reach for Estancia.

“I was pleased with their performance,” Alarcon said. “The first game was awesome.”

Matt Braziel was on the mound for the Rattlers, allowing only two hits. Braziel also got things started offensively in the fourth inning with a bases loaded 3-run triple.
In the fifth inning Drew White hit a 3-run triple as well. More than 50 fans were in attendance.

Game 2
The Rattlers could not get a big rally going in the second game. John Sewell pitched a solid game except for the third inning when Estancia went up 5-1. It wasn’t all Sewell’s fault as Rattler fielders made some errors that allowed Estancia runs.

Coach Alarcon was not pleased with his team’s intensity in the second game.

“We gave Estancia the second game because of our mistakes,” Alarcon said. “We have a solid team we just have to work on our mistakes.”

Alarcon told his players to prepare for a hard practice today as they prepare for their next game at San Jon, 4 p.m. Friday.
