Jewell Jaggers Chesher

Jewell Jaggers Chesher died April 3, 2005 from a recent illness.
Chesher was born Feb. 29, 1912 in Winfield, Texas to Bill and Fronie Jaggers. In 1922, they moved to Cochran County, Morton Texas where she graduated from Morton High School in 1930. She attended Texas Tech University and returned to Morton as a teacher and high school librarian. On Dec. 26, 1942 she married Alvin Lemuel Chesher III. She opened ³Morton Floral and Greenhouse² which was the first flower shop in Morton after receiving a bouquet of ³wilted roses² from Lem while he was serving in WWII. After 20 years, they moved to Lubbock, Texas where she helped organize the Texas Tech Univeristy School Of Law Library. She was member of the Order of the Eastern Star, Past Marton of Morton Texas, Chapel No. 841 and held a life membership in Levelland Texas Chapter No. 797. She was a current member of Center Street United Methodist Church in Tucumcari.
She was preceded in Death by her husband Lem Chester III in 1989 and her daughter Jo Wynn in 1990.
Survivors include her son Lem Chesher IV (and wife Montie) of Tucumcari; three grandchildren, Barbara Prater (Jim) of Glendale, Ariz. , Brad Kelley (Cheri) of Henderson, Nev. and Lisa Chesher of Tucumcari; five great-grandchildren, Ashley and Jason Prater and Austin, James and Megan Kelley, two brothers Dr. Bill Jaggers and niece Dena Ryan and family of Midland Texas and Sam Jaggers and family of Fort Smith, Ark.; one nephew, Howard Chesher and family of Murietta, Calif. as well as other family members and friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. on April 7, 2005 at Rix Funeral Home Chapel in Lubbock, Texas with a grave side service to follow at the Lubbock City Cemetery.
