Thomas Morris, a former state senator for Quay County, was recently named the 2005 Statesman of the Year by the Albuquerque Chamber of Commerce.
The chamber noted that Morris had served as senator from January 1953 to December 1958, and also served as chair of the New Mexico Interstate Stream Commission.
Morris also served in the U.S. House of Representatives until 1969. The New Mexico House of Representatives recently honored Morris with a plaque denoting his various accomplishments.

Henry Salaz and Michelle Perez announce the birth of their daughter Alexia Renee Salaz. She was born at 10:29 a.m. on May 2 in Tucumcari. Her grandparents are Mr. and Mrs. Wes Baker of Tucumcari and Dora Martinez of Tucumcari. Her aunt is Dorsha Kober of Tucumcari.
Linda Garcia of San Jon and Richard Gutierrez of Tucumcari were married on May 12 at First Christian Church. Rev. Jim Witcher performed the wedding.
The bride is the daughter of Robert and Mary Garcia of San Jon. The bride’s grandparents are Joe and Rose Pacheco and Pablo and Veronica Garcia of San Jon. The groom is the son of Jimmy and Alice Gutierrez of Tucumcari. The groom’s grandparents are Juan and Elvira Gutierrez and Manual and Beatrice Gutierrez.
The bride is a 1992 graduate of Thornton High School and the groom is a 1990 graduate of Tucumcari High School.
Daniel Rey Chavarria will celebrate his second birthday on Monday in Tucumcari. He was born in Clovis. His parents are Rigo and Suzy Chavarria of Tucumcari. His brother is Eliano and his sisters are Bianca and Tori.
His grandparents are David and Sary Short of Tucumcari and Guy and Jane Chavarria of Artesia.
Rachel A. Elebario has earned a Master of Social Work Degree from New Mexico State University. She is the daughter of Regina Elebario of Las Cruces and Gabriel Sandoval of El Paso. Grandparents are J.D. Elebario, Celina Elebario and the late Benero Sandoval of Tucumcari and Celia Ramirez of El Paso.
