Herman Joe Carlson
Herman Joe Carlson, 67, died Friday, May 27, 2005, following an extended illness.
He was born Dec. 26, 1937, in Fort Madison, Ill. He had been a resident of Tucumcari since 1945.
He graduated from Tucumcari High School in 1956 and was a member of the Rattler Hall of Fame, family members said. He served in the United States Navy for four years as a submariner on the USS Raton. He was a volunteer firefighter for more than 30 years and a member of the Center Street United Methodist Church.
Mr. Carlson was preceded in death by his parents, Herman “Swede” and Madeline Carlson.
Survivors include his wife, Sandra, of the home; three daughters: Alicia Greenwood (and husband Paul) of Artesia, Suzie Howsmon (Michael) of Bushland, Texas, and Cristy Henderson (Shannon) of Canyon, Texas; seven grandchildren: Caitlyn, Kelli and Tyler Greenwood, Noah and Ryan Howsmon and Carlee and Scott Henderson; and one sister, Charlotte Williams (James) of Los Lunas.
Funeral services are scheduled for 2 p.m. Tuesday at Dunn Memorial Chapel in Tucumcari. Interment will follow in the Tucumcari Memorial Park Cemetery.
J.N. Cook, 90, of Roswell, died Wednesday, May 25, 2005, at Eastern New Mexico Medical Center in Roswell.
He was born on Feb. 5, 1915, in Wellington, Texas, to Jesse and Ellen “Nell” Cook.
He has resided in Roswell for 48 years and was a farmer in the Melrose area. He was involved in coaching and was a supporter of Little League and Connie Mack baseball. He was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and the Roswell Masonic Lodge.
He was preceded in death by his parents; a sister, Helen Harrell; and a son, Bill Cook.
Survivors include a brother, Frank Cook (and wife, Dorothy); two sons, Dan Cook (Connie) of Lakeside, Calif. and Tim Cook of Tucumcari; a daughter, Judith McDonald of Wiesbaden, Germany; 10 grandchildren, Cindy, Jeff, and Matt Cook, Terressa Yancey, Jan Ricar, Rebecca Postlewaire, Gerrianne Diggins, Jesse Cook, DaneeLee Cook, and Kimberly Cook; five great-grandchildren, Briana Spillers, Shay Ricar, Meggan Yancey, and Austin and Evan Postlewaire; and a great-great-grandchild, Michael Spillers.
Pallbearers are his grandsons and grandson-in-law.
