Chamber rodeo set

The fifth annual Tucumcari/Quay County Chamber of Commerce Rodeo begins at 6:30 p.m. Thursday at the Quay County fairgrounds arena with team roping and slack roping competition.
Thursday evening’s events are free. Admission to Friday and Saturday evening’s events, which begin nightly at 7 p.m., is $5 for adults and $2.50 for children under 12.
Kim Andrews of the Chamber said more than 300 participants are scheduled to compete in this year’s rodeo, and about $4,000 in added prize money is available to winning competitors.
“This is the most prize money we’ve offered,” Andrews said. “About 183 competitors are expected to compete Thursday and 68 will compete Friday evening and 59 will compete Saturday evening.”
Events scheduled for Friday and Saturday include bull riding, saddle bronc, bareback, calf roping and steer wrestling and barrel racing events.
Area 4-H members will start festivities off Friday evening with a grand entry parade, and a rodeo clown will be on hand to entertain rodeo fans.
