The Tucumcari Little League team, the Dodgers, won the 2005 major league division. The team was coached by Joey Martinez, Mike Esquibel and Jesus Mendez. Team members include: Gabriel Trujillo, Jacob Montoya, Clinton Marquez, Dominic Lopez, Dimitri Chapell, Colten Strand, Markis Lackey, Jake Martinez, Shawn Martinez, Tyler Nunez, Chris Arias.

Ellen Bone, a recent graduate of San Jon High School, participated in two music contests recently, family members said. At the Greater Southwest Music Festival in Amarillo she played “Bagatelle” by Tcherepnin for which she received an “outstanding” rating. At the Heritage Days Fiddle Contest in Portales she performed the fiddle pieces “Arkansas Traveler,” “Ood Pick” and “Snow Deer.” She placed first in her category and received a cash prize and belt buckle from Big Valley Auto. Her piano teacher is Patricia Davidson and her fiddle teacher is Cory Williams.

Rachel Calbert, a recent graduate of Tucumcari High School, recently received a $2,000 scholarship from Mercedez-Benz, according to a company press release, as part of the company’s “Drive Your Future” scholarship program. She plans to attend Eastern New Mexico University.

The Pacheco-Montoya family reunion will be held in Tucumcari today and Sunday. Family members have reserved space at the Tucumcari Convention Center for festivities, according to reunion organizer Patrica Moon. Family members will be heading to the convention center around noon today.

Jack and Mernell Birch celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary June 18 with family members. They were married June 19, 1955, at Immanuel Lutheran Church in Tucumcari. Maid of honor was Pat Sanders and best man was the late Richard Farmer. The Birches have two daughters, CIndy Birch and Devona Martinez (Joseph) of Albuquerque, five grandsons, Chris Birch (Carolyn), C.J. Oglesby (Raquel), Josh Oglesby, Jeremie Oglesby and Leslee Nunez all of Tucumcari, and grandson Kevin Martinez and granddaughter Karsondra Martinez of Albuquerque.
