Jennie Marie James of Nara Visa will join Paul James Hodgen, of Roachdale, Ind., in marriage at 4 p.m. on July 30 at the United Methodist Church in Logan.
The announcement was made by James’ parents, Louis and Elaine James of Nara Visa. Hodgen is the son of Abe and Shirley Hodgen of Roachdale, Ind.
The bride-elect and the prospective groom are 2003 graduates of Oklahoma State University.

Erin Renee Carter of Fort Sumner is engaged to wed Matthew Peter Smith of Tucumcari on July 23 at the Fort Sumner Church of Christ. A reception open to family and friends will follow the ceremony at the Fort Sumner Community House.
The bride-elect, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. Powhatan Carter III of Fort Sumner, is a graduate of House High School and will graduate from Wayland Baptist University in August with a degree in elementary education.
The prospective groom, son of Mr. and Mrs. Wendell Smith of Tucumcari, is a 1998 graduate of Tucumcari High School and employed by Union Pacific Railroad in Tucumcari, where the couple plans to reside.

Wedding belle …
Sage and John Thompson of Tucumcari were married on July 8 at Five Mile Park. James Witcher performed the outside ceremony.
The bride, daughter of Deanna and Marlin Terry of San Jon, is a 2003 graduate of Mesa Community College.

Conchas of numbers …
The New Mexico State Parks Department reported attendance was up this year at state parks over the July 4 weekend due to high water levels. Specifically, Conchas Lake State Park was up 41 percent from last year. More than 15,750 visitors flocked to the park over last year’s 11,153, according to the department.

A bizillion people — or at least 40 — came from around the world to help celebrate Logan lady Merle Kercheville’s 90th birthday on June 29. Kercheville said she was treated to a birthday dinner and breakfast from her three nieces, Danelle Earle, Mary Liles and Dana Reed, who invited a host of friends and family from as far away as Australia and Brazil. Kercheville said the best part of turning 90 was “still being able to get around.”

Speaking of birthdays …
Tucumcari’s Taylor Atwood celebrated her 12th year on June 28 with her little sister Ashley Bradley, her cousin Garrett Bradley and her friends Megan and Savannah Tompson.
Although the party was planned as an outdoor bash in Dunn Park, the rain kept them inside until evening when they turned it into a slumber party in a tent, shielded from the elements.

Tucumcari guy flies high …
Jeremy Shipley will be flying high with his summer internship with Boeing Airlines in California. Shipley, son of Tucumcari’s Peggy Shipley, plans to return to his studies at New Mexico State University this fall.

Oh, baby …
Dave and Martie Gragg of McAllen, Texas, had a baby boy, Tristan Rey Gragg, on May 14, at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in McAllen.
He weighed 6 pounds, 11 ounces and is 19 inches long. He has two older sisters, Allorah and Staci Moralez of McAllen.
His grandparents are Herman Moralez of Tucumcari, Georgia Gutierrez of Clovis and Ron and Martha Gragg of Montrose, Mo.
