Who: Loraine Otero
Tucumcari native and Quay County financial clerk who was just honored with a Commitment of Excellence award from Quay County commissioners.
Claim to fame: With 30 years of banking experience and three years with the county, Otero said she’s learned to handle many financial challenges. Her job as office manager is overseeing Quay County’s financial matters and inputting payroll, addressing human resource issues and cross training personnel as needed.
She’s not a stranger to being honored for outstanding service, with a jackpot of such awards throughout her career. The New Mexico Bankers Association honored her for 25 years of service and advancement in the industry, and she received a certificate from the Bank Administration Institute for personal commitment to personal success and excellence.
The best part of her job: “This job has been challenging, coming from a financial background into a government entity, but without the support of other county officials and my coworkers I could have not gone as far as I’ve gone. My ability to succeed has evolved due to the help, support and direction of my co-workers and elected officials.”
What she does for fun: No, it’s not coin collecting. Otero likes to hang out with her family and friends. She said she does a lot of fishing and takes frequent weekend getaways.
