Rattlers stay home to face Wolverines

For the first time in two weeks the Tucumcari Rattlers will be playing at home, this time against the Texico Wolverines. The Wolverines, a 3-A district team, are currently 2-2 for the season and Coach Dub Smith calls them a tough tem.

The Rattlers are now second place in the AA district with five wins and no losses, which Smith said is right where they want to be.

“Every game we’re proving that we’re a good football team,” Smith said. “We’re playing exactly right, and it is a huge success. As long as we can keep this up, I see no reason we can’t go all the way to the state championship.”

Smith said one of the biggest reasons the Rattlers are doing so well is not only because they practice hard and give each game everything they’ve got, but because of the fans who show up to every game.

“We’ve got tremendous support from everyone who come to cheeer for us,” he said, “especially the folks who come to our away games. We always appreciate that.”

For those who come to Rattler Stadium Friday night, Smith said the team will put on a good show. “I’ve said before that our goal is to take state, and this game will hopefully take us one step closer. We expect to win, and we practice during the week and play every game like we will win. Our standing in the district proves it.”
