Rattler basketball Coach John Span said his varsity team’s first game was a good fight – right up until the last second when Elida captured the ball and won by a free throw 54-51.
It was a mere 3 points that did it, Span said, after a strong three quarters for the Rattlers, a near tie in the fourth and the single game-winning throw with one second remaining on the clock.
A single throw, he said, his team will be certainly working on.
“We could have played a little better than we did,” Span said. “We missed 13 out of 27 free throws,” he said. “They’ll be coming in early to practice free throws if they have to.”
Overall, however, Span said he was pleased with the Rattlers premiere performance on the court. “They’re really coming along,” he said. “It’s our first game and it’s still early,” he said, adding many of the players are just coming out of the football season and will now be able to put all their energy into basketball.
Despite the energy emitted by the Lady Rattlers, their varsity team also bowed to Elida by a score of 42-29.
