Morning fire destroys mobile home

A mobile home was severely damaged in a Thursday morning fire at 1002 E. Heman Ave.

According to a police report, an unknown male reported the fire at 5:54 a.m. Medics and fire units were dispatched.

No one was home at the time, according to Tucumcari Fire Chief Mike Cherry. He said the mobile home was pretty much unsalvageable.

“It was pretty extensive to 50 percent of the structure,” Cherry said. “Normally on a mobile home like that you don’t save a whole lot.

“We haven’t had a fire that large in a long time,” Cherry said. “The personnel (Tucumcari Fire Department) did a tremendous job.”

Cherry said the cause of the fire is unknown and under investigation with the state fire marshal.
