The Logan Longhorns defeated Texico’s Wolverines for the championship in the Eastern Plains Athletic Conference (EPAC) Tournament o Saturday in the Eastern New Mexico University gymnasium at Portales.
The EPAC Tournament began in 1958 and the Longhorn’s have been a part of EPAC for its entire 48 years.
“This was the first time in Logan’s history to win the championship, and we are very happy for our boys,” said Logan Principal/AD Gary Miller.
Logan’s first round began by defeating Melrose 60-43.
In the second round, the Longhorn’s were able to hold off the Fort Sumner Foxes 60-48 and advance to the championship where they battled against Texico.
“The first half was a defensive battle. The first quarter score was Logan 12 and Texico 14,” said Coach Bill Burns. “At halftime we changed our defense and started to press which picked up the tempo of the game and we also hit some big 3’s,” Burns said.
Logan’s first EPAC championship ended with a 48-34 victory over the Wolverines.
