Rattlers host Clayton

Junior Varsity action started the action in the “Snake Pit” against Clayton on Friday where the Clayton girls led after the first quarter 11-10.

The Jackettes’ pressure forced the Lady rattlers to numerous turnovers which caused the Lady Rattlers to fall behind 37-12 at intermission.

In the third quarter the Lady Rattlers were able to come within 12 points, but the Jackettes held the Lady rattlers off to Clayton 65 and Tucumcari 45.

Ashley Trujillo and Teresa Chacon led the Lady Rattlers with 14 points a piece. Brit Miera led Clayton with 15 points and Brit Beckner tossed in 12 points.

Up next were the JV boys.

The first quarter ended with the Rattlers leading 8-4.

Second quarter action had the Rattlers outscore Clayton 15-5 and take a commanding lead at intermission — Rattlers 23 to the Jackets’ 9.

Tucumcari continued to dominate and defeated Clayton. Final score was Rattlers 55 and the Jackets 36.

The Rattlers were led by D.J. Martinez with 11 and Aric Trujillo with 10 points. Jared Valdez was Clayton’s leading scorer with 8 points, followed by Ronald Cruz with 6 points.

Varsity hoops began with Clayton taking a 6-5 lead at the end of the first quarter. Despite numerous missed inside shots, the Lady Rattlers kept the game close, going in at intermission down 14-12.

The Lady Rattlers effort came up short at the end of regulation, as the Jackettes defeated the Lady Rattlers 44-41.

Jamie Jones led the Lady Rattlers with 9 points; Brandi Arenas added 8 points.

The Jackettes Chey Alsup led all scorers with 16 points and Lindsey Fluman added 12 points.

Drew White drained three free throws down the stretch to clinch a district win for the Rattlers. In a game of many lead changes, the Rattlers managed to bite the Yellow Jackets, winning 60-55.

White led all scorers with 25 points, and Jeremy Lopez knocked down 17 points in the Rattlers second district win. Tate Fluman hit for 17 points to lead the Jackets and Jon Fernandez scored 15 point in the defeat.
