Rattlers rake in first district win

In the second district game of the season on Tuesday, the Rattlers and Lady Rattlers visited Texico. Junior varsity boys and girls were first on the slate.

In the JV boys game the Wolverines defeated the Rattlers by a score of Texico 55 and Tucumcari 40.

Leading the Wolverines past the Rattlers were C. Crist with 15 points; M. Posada added 10 points.

Curtis Simpson led all scorers with 19 points and D.J. Martinez scored 7 points for the Rattlers.

The Lady Rattlers were able to jump to an early lead in the JV girls game but were unable to hold off the Lady Wolverines. Texico defeated the Lady Rattlers 45-26.

Amanda Bass and Holly Harrison each had 8 points to lead the Lady Wolverines; Teresa Chacon and Stephanie Valverde each scored 6 points in leading the Lady Rattlers.

Varsity action had the Lady Rattlers playing in their second district game of the season. Texico dominated the Lady Rattlers early and never let up. At intermission Texico held
a commanding lead of 29-7, and the Lady Rattlers could not recover from the poor first half performance. Texico went on to defeat Tucumcari with a final score of Texico 54 to Tucumcari’s 24.

The Lady Wolverines were led by Brittany Anderson and Krystal Williams with 14 and 13 points, respectfully.

Tucumcari’s leading scorers were Brandi Arenas and Jamie Jones, each with 8 points.

In varsity boys action, the Rattlers saw their first district game win with a score of Tucumcari 50 and Texico 34.
Gabriel Anaya had 18 points in leading the Rattlers past Texico.

The Rattlers held a mere two point lead at intermission, 22-20, but the third period had the Rattlers controlling the ball and outscoring the Wolverines 17-6.

Second leading scorer for the Rattlers was Drew White with 12 points. Texico was led by A. Vaughn with 10 points and D. Shueler with 7.

The Ratter boys will travel today to battle with Estancia at noon.
