Gilbert “Gil” Richard Blea, 62, died Sunday, Jan. 29, 2006, in Louisville, Colo.
He was born May 6, 1943, in Dalhart, Texas, to Moises and Soledad Blea.
The family moved to New Mexico in the 1940s where he graduated in 1962 from Tucumcari High School.
He moved to Denver, met and married Betty Gordon on Nov. 21, 1964, and later received a master’s degree from the University of Northern Colorado.
In 1970 he moved to Longmont, Colo., and began a long teaching career in a number of schools, retiring in 2004 after 34 years.
His family said he was beloved and cherished every moment he could spend with his family. They said he was an avid outdoorsman and a friendly, kind, and generous person who was always willing to lend a helping hand.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
He is survived by his wife; one daughter, Melanie Oliver (and husband, Rich) of Longmont; one son, Wendell Blea (Julie) of Longmont; three grandchildren, Richie, Logan, and Makenna; one brother, Celso Blea (Linda) of Tucumcari; three sisters, Judy Garcia (Eddie) of Amarillo, Nora Anaya (Rocky) of Tucumcari and Lisa Welch (Chuck) of Bonne Terre, Mo., as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Services were held at Messiah Lutheran Church in Longmont with Pastor Ken Schnegelberger officiating. Burial followed in Mount View Memorial Park in Boulder, Colo.
