The Lady Rattlers varsity had a tough week with three losses.
They visited Floyd on Jan. 27 to battle in a non-district ball game where the Lady Broncos prevailed with a 51-46 win.
Starting out fast, the Lady Rattlers held a 14-2 lead at the end of the first period.
In the second period the Lady Broncos came out kicking and scored 14 points, but were down 30-16 at halftime.
The third period was just the reverse for the Lady Rattlers, as they were outscored 16-9. Floyds’ pressure caused the Lady Rattlers to have 35 turnovers, which showed to be the difference in the ball game for a Lady Rattler loss.
Jamie Jones had 18 points and Brandi Arenas tossed in 13 points to lead the Lady Rattlers in their defeat.
Kelli Johnson led all scorers with 19 points in leading the Lady Broncos and Darcee Chenault added 16 points.
Tuesday’s action saw the Lady Rattlers take on Santa Rosa’s
Lady Lions in district play, hoping to improve their 0-3 record.
The Lady Lions weren’t going let that happen and took a bite out of the Lady Rattlers’ hide with a final score of 72-46.
The Lady Rattlers were down 13-8 at the end of the first period and were down as much as 12 points in the second period but fought their way back to within 11 points with 2:19 remaining in the first half.
At intermission the Lady Rattlers were down 33-24.
Third period action saw the Lady Lions press taking over the game in forcing the Lady Rattlers into 35 turnovers for the ballgame, the game’s deciding factor.
Ashley Trujillo led the Lady Rattlers in their defeat with 19 points followed by Jamie Jones with 11 points.
Santa Rosa was led by Josie Barela with 19 points and Britana Campos tossed in 14 points in defeating the Lady Rattlers.
Thursday evening saw a non-district match up between the Lady Rattlers and Lady Broncos with a Lady Broncos win of 68-62.
The first quarter came to an end with a tie at 18.
Second period action had the Lady Broncos outscore the Lady Rattlers 16-12 to take a 34-30 halftime lead.
After intermission the Lady Broncos’ press caused the Lady Rattlers to have numerous turnovers and held a commanding lead at the end of the third period with a score of Lady Broncos 51 to the Lady Rattlers’ 39.
Despite the Lady Rattlers hard work in the final period and Brandi Arenas’ 13 points, the Lady Broncos were able to hold off the Lady Rattlers.
Three other Lady Rattlers scored in double figures in the loss. They were Sam Montano, Kadi Powers and Ashley Trujillo.
Kelli Johnson and Darcee Chenault led the Lady Broncos with 18 points apiece.
Next up for the Lady Rattlers is a non-district game today in Springer against the Red Devils.
