Tucumcari’s junior Drew White’s 18 points and freshman Aric Trujillo’s 15 points led the Rattlers past the Springer Red Devils on Saturday with a final score of 62-58.
The Rattlers started slow being down 20-15 after the first quarter and down 25-33 at the end of the second period.
After the intermission the Rattlers came out reenergized and outscored the Red Devils 22-7 in the third period.
Leading 47-40 going into the final period, the Rattlers were able to hold off the Red Devils despite being out scored 18-15 in the fourth quarter.
Springer was led by John Ramirez and Lance Lacey with 12 points apiece.
The Lady Rattlers were also in Springer to take on the Lady Red Devils.
First period action saw each team trading baskets and ending the first period with a 10-10 tie.
In the second period the Lady Rattler outscored the Lady Devils 17-15 to take a 27-25 lead into the intermission.
The second half proved to be the deciding factor, as in the boys’ game, as the Lady Rattlers outscored their opponents 33-18 in the final two periods.
Tucumcari’s Lady Rattlers shot 67 percent from the charity line and defeated Springer 60-43.
Senior Jamie Jones scored 18 points in leading the Lady Rattlers, while senior Brandi Arenas and eighth grader Ashley Trujillo each added 15 points in defeating the Lady Red Devils.
Springer’s leading scorers were Jacinta Chavez with 17 points and Tamara Fernandez tossed in 13 points.
