Bryan Lopez, a state runnerup last year, is one of four Tucumcari wrestlers who advanced to today’s state wrestling semifinals.
Lopez, who won his second-straight district championship last weekend in Santa Fe, advanced to the semifinals in the 215-pound weight class.
Rattler coach Eddie Encinias said he was pleased with the performance from the team going into the tournament’s final day.
Fernando Ureste (160-pound class), Ryan Fought (135) and Jacob Ramirez (112) also advanced to today’s action.
Rattler wrestlers finished third at their district tournament in Santa Fe last weekend.
Tucumcari’s efforts were led by Lopez.
The Rattlers ended up losing a duel against St. Mike’s by 11 points after giving them 12 points because the Rattlers had to forfeit two weight classes.
Tucumcari missed the finals by a total of 22 points, a close margin in wrestling.
Ramirez, Nathan Martinez, Wesley Martinez and Ureste all took runner up in their weight class.
Other Rattlers that placed at the district tournament were Raymond Jimenez with fourth place; Cameron Manning with third; Michael Fazekas with fourth; Tramae Skinner with third; Fought with third; Matt Garcia with third and Josh Enriquez with third.
