Jackie J. Cannon

Services: 2 p.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday at 1624 S. Fifth St. in Tucumcari.

Jack Cannon, 71, died Tuesday, Feb. 21, 2006 in Tucumcari. 

Mr. Cannon was born May 9, 1934, in Roswell to Harvy and Ruby Cannon.

He had retired from the New Mexico Army National Guard and later retired from civil service with the Army National Guard.

Mr. Cannon had been active in the Mesalands Community College in the Foundry Division.

He was preceded in death by his parents; a son, Jimmy Cannon; and a daughter, Ila Grace Cannon-McKinzie.

Mr. Cannon is survived by his wife Patsy Cannon; a brother, Jerry H. Cannon (wife Kathy) of Amarillo; two sons, Jeff Cannon and Jerry M. Cannon (Stephanie) of Tucumcari; three grandsons, Joshua Cannon (Tricia) of Canyon, Texas, Lane Cannon of Big Spring, Texas and Sean Cannon of Big Spring; a granddaughter, Jeordan McKenzie of Midland, Texas, and two great-grandchildren, Dale and Kirstan of Canyon.

Arrangements are by Dunn Funeral Home of Tucumcari.

Ruth Terpening

Services: 10 a.m. March 10 at Center Street Methodist Church in Tucumcari.

Ruth “Opha” Terpening, 99, died Tuesday, Jan. 17, 2006, at the Colfax General Long Term Care Center in Springer.

Mrs. Terpening was born April 19, 1906 in Prairie Grove, Ark.

She moved to Mosquero with her husband and children in 1931, and she began teaching piano lessons. Mrs. Terpening was the church pianist and active in other church work.

The family moved to Conchas Dam in 1941 and to Tucumcari soon after. Mrs. Terpening worked for the hospital auxiliary and was the oldest volunteer working for the American Cancer Society. She worked for Langley Feed and Grain and Woodward Lumber Company.

Family members said she enjoyed gardening, sewing and food preservation.

Mrs. Terpening was preceded in death by her husband Charlie; two brothers, Dean and Wesley; and three sisters, Pearl, Jewell and Sylvia.

She is survived by a son, Charles W. (wife Dorothy) of Cimarron, two daughters, Evelyn (Don) of Las Cruces and Irma (Buddy) of Cimarron; nine grandchildren and several great-grandchildren.
