Applications sought by Early Head Start

The Eastern Plains Early Head Start Program is accepting applications for enrollment in the infant/toddler program. The Early Head Start program promotes healthy prenatal outcomes for pregnant women and works with children and families of very young children (six weeks to 36 months) to ensure the development needs of each child are met.

San Jon band performs Monday

March is Music in Our Schools Month. San Jon music students will present a program 6 p.m. Monday at the old gym. The program, titled, “This is America,” has no admission charge.

Scholarships available

The Alpha Mu chapter of Beta Sigma Phi is now accepting scholarship applications for area graduating seniors for $200 scholarships. Applications can be picked up at Apollo Gym, 121 E. Main St.

The applications must be postmarked by April 3. They can be mailed to Alpha Mu Chapter of Beta Sigma Phi, c/o Mary Jimenez, P.O. Box 427, Tucumcari, NM 88401, or delivered to Apollo Gym.

New Mexico Forestry Camp accepting applications

New Mexico Forestry Camp is a five-day workshop for New Mexico’s youth to learn how to use, care for, and appreciate our land. Resource professionals work with campers to learn about trees, streams, archaeology, insects, wildland fire, range management, wildlife, outdoor ethics, search and rescue, soils and geology.

Forestry Camp is held at Rancho del Chaparral Scout Camp in the Jemez Mountains near Cuba. This year’s camp will be held June 4-9. Any New Mexico resident age 13 to 18 with an interest in the outdoors is eligible. Approximately 40 forest campers will be selected based on information provided on application forms, which are due by April 21.

A registration fee of $40 is required with application (refundable if not accepted to attend camp) and the total camp fee is $190. Some scholarships may be available. Evelyn Massey, Clerk of the Canadian River Soil and Water Conservation District advises that her district will provide scholarships to two local youths in the district, which includes Tucumcari, San Jon, Logan, Nara Visa and Conchas Dam.

Applications for the District scholarship should be turned in to the District Office as soon as possible. The District will accept late applications up to April 30.
