By Howie Tucker

It is that time of the year to start all of the fun and excitement. The annual Tri-Format Tournament kicks off 9 a.m. Saturday.

The format of the tourney is three different types of Team Play. The first nine holes will be scored using the best ball of the twosome, the second nine holes scored by alternate shots by twosome and the third nine holes by a scramble scoring format.

The tournament will be flighted by committee and all players must have a current USGA handicap. Get a partner and sign up by calling 461-1849. The deadline is 6 p.m. Thursday.

Rule of the week

Knowing the rules of golf is an advantage for any disadvantage you put yourself in.

Pointer of week

Stop chucking chips.

1. Ball back weight left. Put a headcover about a foot behind the ball, play the ball center and lean left.

2. Swing back, with your weight forward, so you’ll swing on a steeper plane and miss the headcover.

3. Hit down on the ball. Pinch in your right knee coming down, and don’t let the club pass your hands.

The final results of the Morning at the Masters Scramble, held Saturday:

First: 60; Steve Mills, Bob McCelland, Bob Coslett, Mike Williamson and Des Griggs.

Second: 61 (tie); Roger Bowe, Ronny Sanders, Dean Border and Janet Nelson. 61 (tie); Dave Hein, Gale Brown, Justin Alvarez and Bill Griffin.

Fourth: 62; Nano Otero, Andy Garcia, Larry Brown Jr. and Mark Arnett
